Lance’s First Hospital Confinement

Disclaimer.  This is a long read.

Yup, Lance was confined at the Medical City last week due to asthma and pneumonia.  We thought that we were prepared already since we visited the pedia to ask what medicines to take to prevent him from having asthma caused by the fireworks on New Year’s Eve.  We thought it’s enough na but come Saturday, he had fever, cough and colds.  We immediately gave him medications but his condition did not improve.  The following day, we nebulized him for we felt that it was leading to asthma already.  Still there was no improvement.  We brought him to the pedia the following Monday and the pedia advised us to nebulize him every two hours, and we have to watch out for it might lead to pneumonia.  And so we did.  That Monday night, Lance had difficulty sleeping for he was coughing all the time so Paul and I decided to bring him to the hospital after we pick up his nanny at the airport.

From the airport, we went home to leave Hannah and Lance’s nanny then proceeded to the ER of medical city.  When they checked on Lance, the doctors said that there’s a big possibility that we might be admitted since he is really not in good condition.  After awhile, one of the pedias at the ER said that Lance has to be confined.  They also told us that they advised Lance’s pedia and that the pedia said he should be confined na nga.  So I went to the admitting section and got a room for us.  While we were at the ER pala, they had him nebulized agad then they checked his oxygen and he got 89% which is low because it should be 95% and above.  He also had chest x-ray and was given oxygen all the time.  He also had IV and I cried when he was injected.  Wawa eh.  He was crying all the time and it’s as if I can feel his pain.  Buti na lang, ok ung nurse that once lang sya nag inject and ok agad.  Kasi di ba others find it difficult sa pag inject kasi di nila makita ung vein, lalo na sa case ni Lance na medyo chubby.  Buti na lang he got it right agad.

Anyway, we were able to go to our room by 3pm.  And since we didn’t know that he will be admitted, I only have a pair of clothes for Lance and 2 bottles of milk.  Lance fell asleep after we settled maybe because he got tired of crying.  I then went home when he was asleep na to get our stuff.  This is him on our first night.

second night

We were always visited by the docs and nurses monitoring him and telling us of his progress.  They’re really concerned on his oxygen since sometimes it drops down to 79.  One doctor told us that his brain might be affected if he lacks oxygen so we really forced lance to put on the mask.  He doesn’t like it kasi kaya on the first day, we only put it when he’s asleep just like this.

oxygen

Wawa no :(   Pero when the doctor told us that it might affect his brain, we forced lance into using the mask.  Siguro Lance realized it helps him breathe coz later on, he doesn’t complain anymore when we put on the mask.  There was even a time that the doctor did not allow us to roam around the floor because we need to give Lance his oxygen.  Coz that is our routine, we get a wheelchair, Lance will sit on my lap and Paul will push the wheel chair and we just roam around the floor.  Para din he gets a different view, kasi syempre boring inside the room.  Here’s the pedia floor at medical city.

Eventually, he started recovering; his lungs are not inflamed anymore but his oxygen is still low. But one of the signs that mean he’s getting better is that he has appetite again.  Here he is eating oreo.

Friday morning, the pedia said that he’s really getting better and the earliest that we can go home is the next day or if not on Sunday.  And when she dropped by again Saturday morning, she said that Lance is good to go home already.  We just have to continue his medications and to come back on Tuesday for his check-up.

I was on half-day leave last Tuesday for the check up and the pedia said Lance still has cough but it will be gone in a few days.  We’re really thankful that he was able to recover agad and he’s getting better now. :)
