Christmas Tradition
Every year on Christmas day, we spend our day with my mom’s side of the family. We go to my uncle’s house in Paranaque and all my mom’s siblings and their families go there too. We share food thru potluck and we exchange gifts.
This year is no different. We went there and spent the day with the family. After eating, the cousins (that’s us) were at the living room playing or just sharing stories, while the elders were at the dining. There was a time when I joined the elders in the dining when some of our cousins took a nap. At that time, my uncle who was a military officer before was sharing his experience at the academy and even when he was in service already. I had fun listening to him talk about his challenges and fun times when he was still in school, like he was asked to squat inside the bus from Quezon City all the way to Baguio because of one mistake he made, or the time when he was asked to look for military challenge coins by the upper class men, or the boodle fight they had wherein they put rice and sardines in the newspaper, mix them and eat that after eating, even the newspaper is gone. ![]()
Anyway, it was really a fun Christmas day and I am again looking forward to spending time with them. I hope the rest of the families all over the world spent their Christmases with their love ones too.
